Somehow, and don’t ask me how, five whole years have passed since publication of the first DCI Jack Logan Novel, A Litter of Bones. In 2019, I published the first four books in the series, which means those books have all now either passed or approaching their fifth birthday.

Last year, I had the idea of doing some special limited edition anniversary editions of the books to mark the big event, and commissioned the artwork you can see above, based on old Scottish tourism posters. At first glance, they look like fairly standard Scottish art prints, but each image features references to the events in the book, from dead bodies to vomiting detective constables.

Because these are anniversary editions, I want them to be really special – hardback, limited edition, signed and numbered, with foil embossing, bookmark ribbons, and a few other surprises. The problem with doing that is that it’s expensive, and I have no idea if anyone would actually want to buy a copy/copies.

So, to find out if it’s worthwhile, or if it’s going to bankrupt me and leave me with hundreds of copies of fancy but unsellable books, I thought I’d run a quick survey. It’ll be open until Friday 21st of June, and will help me decide if I should go ahead with the special editions or not.

If I go ahead with the anniversary editions, I’ll be using the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. Don’t worry, though, it’s very straightforward to use, and I’ll explain it all in more detail if there’s enough interest in the books to proceed.
